Warning

Event

The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) has announced that statewide protests will take place in 33 districts on June 14, in order to pressure the state government to waive farmer's loans. Congress is also making around six other demands, including allowing farmers methods to reduce production costs and providing them with a 50 percent profit on the minimum sales price.

Context

Farmers have been protesting over perceived injustice throughout India. On June 1, farmers across Maharashtra launched an indefinite strike over poor economic conditions, with protesters preventing produce trucks from transporting fruits, vegetables, and milk to major cities. The strike was suspended on June 11, after the Maharashtrian state waived farmer's loans.

Advice

Individuals in India are advised to monitor the situation and to stay away from all demonstrations.

As a reminder, some Western governments advise their citizens against nonessential travel to the west of Jammu and Kashmir states and against all travel to the border region with Pakistan (direct vicinity of the Line of Control) due to the high threat of terrorism.
