The ruling Awami League (AL) party plans to rally at Jashore Stadium, Khulna Division, Nov. 24 to mobilize greater political support amid the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) ongoing three-month political campaign. AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address the rally. Organizers claim hundreds of thousands of people are likely to attend the event.
Authorities will almost certainly tighten security near the gathering site. Clashes between AL activists and police, as well as between AL supporters and counterdemonstrators, are possible. Demonstrators could also march along and/or block roadways, prompting localized transport disruptions.
