Lebanon: Targeted Israeli strike kills two in Majdal Anjar May 17
Two killed in targeted Israeli strike in Majdal Anjar, Lebanon, May 17. Further violence likely.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly targeted two members of Lebanon's Al Fajr Forces in Majdal Anjar, close to the Lebanese-Syrian border May 17. The strike came a few hours after the IDF killed a Hizballah commander in the Najjarieh area of Lebanon's South Governorate.
Heightened security and disruptions to transport and business are likely in the affected area over the coming hours.
Avoid the area where the strike took place until authorities give the all-clear. Plan for localized disruptions and seek alternative routes to circumvent the impacted location. Heed all official directives. Seek alternative routes and allow additional time to reach destinations if operating in the impacted area.
The Al Fajr Forces are the military wing of Jamaa Islamiya, a Lebanese Sunni Muslim organization. The Al Fajr Forces have been involved in targeting Israel since Oct. 7, 2023.
The latest Israeli strike comes amid the ongoing cross-border violence between the IDF and various Lebanese-based militants, including Lebanese Hizballah (LH). The IDF's objective is to deter the militants from further attacks against Israel and to force them to withdraw from areas near the country's border with Lebanon.
