Indonesia: Significant flooding around Jakarta

Event

Recent torrential rain caused significant flooding and landslides in and around the capital city of Jakarta. According to the governor of Jakarta, around 6500 residents have been forced to evacuate due to flooding as of Tuesday, February 6, primarily from the southern and eastern districts. In addition, at least eight people are missing in the city of Bogor (south of Jakarta) after the area was hit by two landslides on Monday, February 5. As of February 6, at least two people have died due to the flooding and landslides in the region surrounding Jakarta. Police and military personnel have been deployed to conduct rescue operations and provide emergency assistance to those impacted by the floods.

Flooding is common in Indonesia during the rainy season, which spans from December to March.

Individuals present in and around Jakarta are advised to follow all instructions as issued by local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock an adult over.
