Indonesia: Bali Airport expansion work to begin late April
Expansion work to begin April 26 at Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, ahead of October IMF summit
Event
Expansion work is set to begin on April 26 at Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), ahead of an important International Monetary Fund (IMF) summit being held in October. The expansion will incorporate areas to the western and eastern sides of the airport to allow for more parking areas for large jets. The VIP I and VIP II terminals on the western side of the airport will be moved to the eastern side, near the international cargo terminal. Some 17,000 delegates from 189 countries - including heads of state, central bank governors, and ministers - are expected to attend the IMF meeting in Bali.
Context
DPS welcomed 21 million passengers in 2017, nearing its maximal capacity of 25 million passengers. According to the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) 20-year air passenger forecast, Indonesia is expected to become the fourth-fastest growing aviation market.
Advice
Passengers traveling via DPS may experience some disruptions in the coming months, notably while exiting planes or at check-in desks.
