Argentina-Uruguay: Powerful storms forecast May 30

Storm alerts in effect in central Argentina and western Uruguay May 30; flooding, power outages, transportation disruptions possible

The Argentinean and Uruguayan meteorological authorities have issued alerts for their respective countries due to powerful storms forecast to hit Wednesday, May 30.

In Argentina, alerts are in effect in the capital Buenos Aires, the center-east and north of Buenos Aires province, the east of Córdoba province, Entre Ríos province, southern and central Santa Fe province, and other areas along the Rio de la Plata River.

The Uruguayan meteorological institute INUMET has issued yellow alerts - the third highest level - for the west the country. The alerts are in place for the capital Montevideo as well as all or parts of the departments of Canelones, Colonia, Flores, Florida, Maldonado, Paysandú, Río Negro, Salto, San José, and Soriano.

Heavy rain, thunder and lighting, and violent winds are expected throughout the day. Associated flooding, power outages, and transportation disruptions are possible.
