Mount Agung erupts in Bali on June 28; several flights canceled

On Thursday, June 28, several airlines canceled their flights to Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) following an eruption at Mount Agung. Dozens of flight to and from Bali have been impacted. Dangerous volcanic ash that has reached up to 2000 m (6562 ft) into the air. Additional flight delays and cancelations are possible in the coming hours and days if volcanic activity intensifies.
Authorities have issued an evacuation order for areas within a 4-km (2.5 mi) radius of the volcano and continue to advise individuals in the area to wear masks to protect themselves from toxic particles in the air.
Volcanic activity may escalate quickly, with little notice, and further eruptions and associated disruption cannot be ruled out.
Context
Located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia is exposed to a permanent risk of volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and tsunamis. Mount Agung's last major eruption occurred in 1963 and resulted in the deaths of around 1500 people.
