Lebanon: Eid-related congestion expected at BEY through early September

The anticipated increase in congestion is largely attributed to the planned return of travelers from Lebanese diaspora communities to their home countries after spending time with families in Lebanon during the holiday. Increased wait times are expected at airport security checkpoints, airport gates, and check-in counters in the coming days.

Context

Eid al-Adha is one of the most widely observed holidays in Islam and coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. According to Islamic customs, worshippers usually slaughter a sheep or goat to share the meat with their family and neighbors. About 54 percent of Lebanon's population is Muslim.
