India: Worker-farmer rally in New Delhi, Sept. 5

Workers and farmers rally together in the capital city New Delhi over minimum support price and minimum wage

On September 5, thousands of farmers and workers participated in a rally in New Delhi. The protesters are heading to Parliament Street and to Jantar Mantar (near Connaught place). The joint-marchers are demanding effective implementation of labour laws, minimum wage and more employment opportunities, among other things. 

Context

The Kisan-Mazdoor Sangharsh rally is staged by several outfits affiliated to the Communist Party of India (CPI-M).

As a precautionary measure, individuals present in New Delhi today are advised to stay away from the rally and any public gatherings, as they may turn violent. Anticipate road restrictions and severe transport incidents. Adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
