Beirut to host Arab League Summit on January 19-20; heightened security presence, road closures expected

Beirut will host the Arab League's Arab Social and Economic Development Summit on Saturday, January 19, and Sunday, January 20, resulting in a heightened security presence, road closures, and other transportation disruptions. Summit events will be held along the north waterfront area of Zaitunya Bay and the Beirut Central District, just west of Mar Mikhael. The area will be closed to the public and road closures, including Charles Helou Way, will begin the evening (local time) of Thursday, January 17. Congested road and hotel conditions are likely over the course of the summit. Associated protests and public demonstrations cannot be ruled out.
