Vanuatu: 6.6-magnitude earthquake hits northwest of Sola Jan. 16

Event

A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck the northern islands of Vanuatu around 05:06 (local time) on Wednesday, January 16. No tsunami warnings were issued as of 05:45 for the quake, which hit off the Torres Islands about 105 km (65 mi) northwest of Sola. The epicenter was located at a depth of approximately 47 km (29 mi). There are no initial reports of damage; further aftershocks are possible in the area in the coming hours.
