Bahrain: Bahrain to host Grand Prix March 29-31

Bahrain hosts Grand Prix March 29-31; heightened security measures and disruptions expected

Warning

Event

Bahrain will host the Grand Prix at the Bahrain International Circuit from Friday, March 29, to Sunday, March 31. Practice and qualifying runs will last from 14:00 to 19:30 (local time) on Friday and 15:00 to 19:00 on Saturday, March 30, with the race beginning at 18:10 on Sunday. Heightened security measures, crowded conditions, and transportation disruptions, including traffic congestion and road closures, are expected near the circuit and across the island, including in the capital of Manama and Bahrain International Airport (BAH). Oppositions have warned of protests during the events, though no locations or times are available. Such protests are likely to be quickly dispersed by security forces.

Bahraini immigration officials are issuing F1 visas for ticket holders to allow for multiple entries for a period of two weeks surrounding the race. F1 visas are free of charge for Grand Prix ticket holders.

Advice

Individuals in Bahrain are advised to avoid any public demonstrations due to the risk of violence and arrest, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments, and anticipate heightened security measures, transportation disruptions (e.g. road closures, increased congestion near the Bahrain International Circuit), and increased demand for lodging.
