Warning

Event

Around 3000 students protested in Abidjan an ongoing teachers' strike on Thursday, February 28. Teachers have been on strike for nearly seven weeks, resulting in the closure of schools and universities. The student protesters demanded an end to the strike and a resumption of classes. Negotiations between the government and the teachers' union were suspended indefinitely on Monday, February 25, after they failed to reach an agreement. A continuation of the strike is expected and further protests by teachers and by students are possible in the coming days and weeks. Associated disruptions are expected in the vicinity of any demonstrations.

Advice

Individuals in Côte d'Ivoire, and Abidjan in particular, are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate public demonstrations and localized transportation disruptions, and avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution.
