Denmark: Far right party calls for protests in Copenhagen and Tarnby April 23-24

Far-right political party to demonstrate in Copenhagen and Tarnby April 23-24; counterprotests and localized disruptions expected

Warning

Event

The far-right political party Stram Kurs (SK) is expected to hold demonstrations in the capital Copenhagen and the nearby town of Tarnby on Tuesday, April 23, and Wednesday, April 24, to denounce the government's current immigration policies. On April 23, protesters are expected to gather at 17:00 (local time) in Tarnby, in front of the local gymnasium. On Wednesday, April 24, an additional protest is expected to take place at Blagard Plads in Copenhagen at 17:00 (local time).

A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are likely. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces or potential counterprotesters cannot be ruled out.

Context

Multiple anti-Muslim protests led by the SK party and related counter-demonstrations have taken place across Denmark in recent weeks, notably following the Christchurch attack in New Zealand on March 15. Danish police have prohibited similar demonstrations in Copenhagen in recent weeks.

Advice

Individuals in Denmark are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities.
