Civil society groups call for supporters to demonstrate in Rabat on April 26 to call for the release of political prisoners; heightened security measures expected

Political activists are calling for a demonstration in Rabat on Friday, April 26, outside of the headquarters of the Moroccan prison service (DGAPR). The rally is expected to start at 10:00 (local time) and is being held in support of political prisoners who are members of the Hirak Rif movement. Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are expected around the protest site. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
Context
Thousands of people participated in a protest march in Rabat on April 21 in support of 42 activists who have been detained following demonstrations in 2016 and 2017. Several of the jailed activists has reportedly gone on a hunger strike and their families are concerned for their reportedly worsening health conditions.
