Ghana: Overnight curfew hours extended in Bole township June 5

The Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday, June 5, that an overnight curfew currently in place for the township of Bole (Northern region) has been extended following intercommunal clashes. As of Wednesday, curfew hours are now from 18:00 until 06:00 (local time) in Bole and its environs. A total ban on the possession of firearms, ammunition, or other weapons is also in effect. The security measures were increased after a rival chief arrived in the town to pray with imams during Eid al-Fitr. According to media reports, members of another community fired shots to disrupt the prayers and burned two houses and vandalized a vehicle. Additional security personnel have also been deployed into the area. It is unclear how long the heightened security measures and new curfew hours will remain in effect. Further clashes between rival communities are also possible in the near term.
