Heatwave to affect Switzerland June 27-30; drink fluids and avoid outdoor and strenuous activities

As of Thursday, June 27, the national weather agency MétéoSuisse issued a level 4 heatwave warning in several regions, including Basel, and level 3 heatwave warnings for the rest of the country, including the regions of Geneva, Lausanne, Bern, and Zurich. The heatwave is expected to bring temperatures as high as 39°C (102°F), lasting through to at least Monday, July 1. 

Advice

Individuals in Switzerland are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid strenuous activities or spending time outdoors, particularly during midday, wear loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water and avoid dehydrating liquids, such as alcoholic, sugary, or caffeinated drinks, and seek immediate medical attention if exhibiting symptoms of heat stroke, such as nausea, confusion, headache, rapid and strong pulse, and dry skin.
