Commerce and service workers on strike nationwide on June 21; transport disruptions expected

Members of the Federation of Employees of Commerce and Services union (FUECYS) are slated to strike on Friday, June 21, in a nationwide movement to celebrate the Day of the Worker of Commerce and Services. Protests across the sector should be expected nationwide, particularly in urban centers. In Montevideo, protesters are expected to gather at the Legislative Palace at 09:00 (local time) and will later march to Plaza Jose Pepe D'Elia.

Service interruptions in restaurant, supermarkets, and other commercial centers are to be expected. Associated transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are expected in the vicinity of any protests.
