Warning

Event

Singapore will celebrate National Day to commemorate its 54th anniversary as an independent nation on Friday, August 9. National Day is a public holiday and government services and business disruptions are expected. The National Day Parade will be held in central Singapore at the Padang, in front of the National Gallery, around 18:00 (local time) and conclude with fireworks around 20:20. A heightened and visible security presence is expected, particularly around the Padang, Esplanade, and Marina Bay. Road closures are planned for the area, including Esplanade Bridge, Anderson Bridge, westbound Nicoll Highway from the National Stadium, and eastbound Bayfront Avenue. Crowded public transportation conditions are also likely.

Singapore will also hold two previews on Saturday, July 27, and Saturday, August 3. Similar road closures and security measures are expected. A full map of road closures with timings can be found here.

On Saturday, August 10, nearly 200 military and home defense vehicles will participate in four simultaneous parades from the F1 Pit Building to areas across the island, including Jurong, Bishan, Woodlands, Geylang, Punggol, Bedok, and Tampines. The parades are expected to last from around 14:00 to 18:45.

Context

National Day is held annually on August 9. This year, official celebrations have moved from The Float @ Marina Bay to the Padang by the National Gallery.

Advice

Individuals in Singapore are advised to anticipate transportation and business disruptions and a heightened security presence, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, and allow additional time to reach their destinations.
