Event

Events to commemorate the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are being held in Dhaka on Thursday, August 15, amid heightened security measures. The main commemorations are taking place at the Bangabandhu Museum and Banani Graveyard along Road 32 in the Dhanmandi area. A heightened security presence is deployed at the museum and all individuals are being searched upon entry. Traffic diversions are in effect around the museum to accommodate the increase in visitors. Political and social leaders place wreaths at Rahman’s portrait at the museum on Thursday morning (local time). Other programs will be held across the country to observe the National Mourning Day.

Individuals in Dhaka, and Bangladesh more generally, are advised to respect local customs, anticipate a heightened security presence and traffic disruptions around public events, and allow additional time to travel.
