CAR: Nationwide police officer strike August 28

Nationwide police officers strike until at least August 28

Warning

Event

Police officers have called for a strike as of Monday, August 26, until at least Wednesday, August 28, to demand a change to their status, adopted in 2008 but still remains to take effect. Police officers are reportedly blocking roads leading to the police headquarters in Bangui and most of their activities are at standstill (airport security, border checks, etc.). Protesters have threatened to strengthen the strike action if the government does not address their requests. Additional strikes and related protests are possible in the coming days.

Advice

Individuals present in CAR, particularly Bangui, are advised to monitor local developments, maintain a high degree of situational awareness, avoid all protests, and remain vigilant for potential militant activity.

In general, a number of Western governments advise their citizens against travel to most of the east of the country for various security reasons, including the presence of armed groups.
