Event
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has called for a series of protests and rallies in Dhaka and other major cities in September to demand the release of its imprisoned Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who was charged with corruption in 2018. On Wednesday, September 11, BNP has called for "human chain" protests in Dhaka. Participants plan to gather at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan, and outside the party chairperson's office in Gulshan. On Thursday, September 12, the political party has called for more "human chain" protests throughout the country, though did not immediately release further details regarding times or locations. The BNP is also planning to hold public rallies on Saturday, September 21, in Sylhet, on Thursday, September 26, in Mymensingh, and on Saturday, September 29, in Rajshahi. They may hold another public rally in Rangpur at a later date, however, BNP did not immediately announce further details for any of the scheduled public rallies.
A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are likely surrounding all protests.
