Smog covers Ho Chi Minh city and southern provinces as of September 26; situation to continue over the coming days

As of Thursday, September 26, smog conditions have reduced visibility and have created health hazards in Ho Chi Minh since Saturday, September 21. On Tuesday, September 24, the Air Pollution Index (API) in Ho Chi Minh reached an unhealthy level of 132. Similar readings were recorded in the southern provinces of Bình Thuận and Cà Mau. The situation is forecast to persist over the next few days.
According to the Center of Hydrological Forecasting (NCHMF), there is not enough evidence to link the smog with the ongoing large-scale forest and agricultural fires ongoing in Sumatra, Indonesia.
