Auto-rickshaw drivers to stage a 72-hour strike in Dhaka from October 15; transportation disruptions expected

Auto-rickshaw drivers announced on Monday, October 14, they will stage a 72-hour strike in Dhaka from Tuesday, October 15, to Thursday, October 17. Rickshaw drivers demand an increase in fare rates and more regulations on the market. Related demonstrations are expected, notably outside the National Press Club.

Previous demonstrations held on Sunday, October 6, and Sunday, October 13, have caused significant transportation disruptions across the capital.

Auto-rickshaw service interruptions are to be expected. Associated localized transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are expected in the vicinity of all protests.
