Significant flooding is impacting several neighborhoods in the capital Bangui as of Wednesday, October 23. Heavy rains on Sunday, October 20, cause the Oubangui River to overflow and flood parts of M’poko, Ubangi, Gbanikola, Sapeke 2, and Maya-Maya among other areas. At least 6000 people have been displaced as dozens of houses have been destroyed. Recovery efforts are ongoing and disaster assistance is being provided to families affected by the flooding. Local officials are also concerned about the spread of water-borne diseases due to poor sanitation and water contamination.
