Broad Front candidate Daniel Martínez and National Party Luis Lacalle Pou are to face off at a second round presidential election on Sunday, November 24, following a first-round election on Sunday, October 27. Neither candidate reached the 50 percent plus one vote needed to avoid a second round, with Martinez bringing in 39.2 percent of the vote and Pou 28.6 percent. 

Political rallies, events, and demonstrations are likely to take place in the lead-up to the election. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are therefore to be expected in the coming several days and weeks in Montevideo and other urban centers.
