Cyclone Bulbul to make landfall in Khepupara (Patuakhali district) November 10; heavy rain, flooding, and transportation disruptions expected

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecast Cyclone Bulbul to make landfall in Khepupara (Patuakhali district) on the morning (local time) of Sunday, November 10, with maximum sustained winds of 110-120 kph (68-75 mph). Bulbul is expected to intensify through the morning of Saturday, November 9, and forecast to bring rain and damaging winds across the coastal areas. As of Friday, November 8, a signal four warning has been issued in the Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Praya maritime ports.

Flooding, landslides, and power outages are possible in the area over the coming days, as well as associated transportation and business disruptions, including flight delays and cancelations.

As of 08:45 on Friday, Bulbul was located at approximately 16.9°N 87.6°E and was moving north-northwest at a speed of 10 kph (6 mph).

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
