Colombia: Air traffic controllers to join national strike November 21 /update 1

The Central of Unitary Workers (CUT) has scheduled an opposition protest across Colombia on Thursday, November 21, to call for labor and pension reforms, though has evolved into a protest against President Ivan Duque. Air traffic controllers have announced that they will participate in the strike, with staff attending an assembly from 06:00 to 10:00 (local time). Flight disruptions such as delays and cancellations are therefore to be expected for most of the day, as well as residual disruptions following the strike.

Protests are scheduled in Cartagena, Cali, Medellín, and Bucaramanga, as well as in Bogotá, where protests are expected to begin at 09:00 (local time). While locations were not immediately announced, gatherings and mobilizations are expected in each city.

A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of all protests. Clashes between security forces and protesers cannot be ruled out.
