A 5.4-magnitude earthquake strikes near Zagreb on March 22; at least two people injured

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.4-magnitude earthquake approximately 3 km (1.8 mi) southwest of the Zagreb settlement of Kašina on the early morning hours (local time) of Sunday, March 22. The quake, which hit at a depth of 10 km (6 mi), caused widespread damage across the capital, damaging buildings, burying vehicles in rubble, and causing several fires. As of Sunday afternoon, at least two people were injured. Firefighting and rescue operations remain ongoing, and all citizens have been advised to remain at home.
Aftershocks are possible over the coming hours.
