Officials report minor infrastructural damages following a 5.5-magnitude earthquake south of Tallaboa (Puerto Rico) on May 2; aftershocks possible over the near term

Minor infrastructural damages have been reported in Puerto Rico after the US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.5-magnitude earthquake 6 km (4 mi) south of Tallaboa at approximately 07:13 (local time) on Saturday, May 2. According to the spokeswoman Inés Rivera for the city of Ponce, no major infrastructure damage or casualties have been reported so far. Although the quake prompted power outages, cracks on buildings, and small landslides, while in Ponce, a balcony reportedly collapsed.
Further aftershocks are likely to continue over the coming hours and days.
