Iraq: Rocket hits near Baghdad International Airport (BGW) June 8

A rocket attack has been reported in the vicinity of Baghdad International Airport (BGW) on Monday evening (local time), June 8. The Iraqi military stated that the rocket was launched from the south of the airport, striking close to the headquarters of the U.S.-led coalition. Security forces have initiated a search operation to uncover the perpetrators. There were no reported casualties or damages. The attack is the first to target the airport since May 6, during which three katyusha rockets landed in the airport's perimeter, hitting the US Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center (BDSC) compound.

Similar attacks targeting US facilities are possible in Iraq over the near term.
