Two bodyguards and a civilian driving by were killed in Mexico City on Friday, June 26, as unidentified gunmen fired upon the vehicle of the city's public security chief Omar Garcia Harfuch, who was also shot three times but is in a stable condition. The incident took place in the Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood at around 06:30 (local time). Harfuch blamed the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), known as one of the most violent in the country, for the attack. However, this information has not been confirmed and the gunmen have not yet been identified.

A heightened security presence is anticipated in the area over the coming days, as well as an increase in police operations. Similar attacks targeting security forces are also possible in the near term.
