Several injured as students clash with police at high school in Asikuma district on July 8; possibility of further unrest in near term

Students clashed with police at the Breman Asikuma Senior High School in the Asikuma district, around 80km (50 miles) west of Accra, on Wednesday, July 8. At least two students were injured as police attempted to disperse a protest, which allegedly erupted after a learner was assaulted by teachers for breaking school regulations regarding mobile phones. Police reportedly fired warning shots to disperse the demonstration, but at least one student was hit by a stray round.

Further student unrest is possible in the Asikuma district in the near term.
