Warning

Event

At least seven Afghan Public Protection Force (APPF) personnel were killed and 15 others wounded on the evening of Saturday, August 8, in a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) attack on their compound in the city of Ghazni. The SVBIED was reportedly detonated outside the base in the Kotal-e-Rawza area of the city at around 19:45 (local time) before several militants attempted to storm the site in a follow-up small arms attack. However, the attackers are reported to have been killed before being able to enter the compound. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Further attacks and associated security operations in the area are likely in the medium term.

Advice

Those in Ghazni are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
