Event
A tropical low-pressure system is forecast to bring adverse weather across Oman through Monday, August 10. Heavy rain and strong winds could impact at least nine of the country's 11 provinces, including the capital Muscat. The other provinces likely to be impacted include South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Ad Dakhliyah, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Dahirah, Al Buraimi, and Al Wusta. Dust storms, thunderstorms, and flash flooding are possible in the coming days.
Transportation and business disruptions are anticipated, as well as disruptions to power and communications services in the coming days.
Advice
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate continuing disruptions, and not drive through floodwaters. Running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult. Floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
