The British Embassy in Baghdad confirmed that a British diplomatic vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) on the road between Baghdad International Airport (BGW) and the fortified Green Zone on Tuesday morning, September 15. No casualties were reported following the incident, which occurred close to the Umm al-Tabool Mosque. No group has claimed for responsibility for the device and it is not confirmed if it is linked to recent rocket attacks by Iranian-linked Shia militia groups on targets associated with the presence of foreign troops in Iraq.

Further attacks are possible in the near term and extra security deployments by western missions in Iraq is likely following the incident.
