One person was killed and three security personnel wounded as a result of a car bomb which detonated at a checkpoint in Kirkuk province on Tuesday, September 1. The incident occurred at the Mariam Bek checkpoint along the Kirkuk-Tikrit highway. No group has claimed immediate responsibility for the attack.

A heightened security presence is expected in the vicinity of the incident in the near term and further attacks are possible.
