Risk of explosion following train collision in Gothenburg September 1; residual disruption expected in the area

Swedish authorities have reported that there is a high risk of explosion following a train collision in eastern Gothenburg on Tuesday, September 1, and have cordoned off an area of 600m (0.3 mi) surrounding the incident and evacuated surrounding buildings and schools.

The two freight trains were carrying highly flammable substances leading authorities to also block the surrounding area for passing trains which may affect rail traffic between Gothenburg to Stockholm, Alingsås, and Skövde until the area is completely clear. No leakages have been found and no casualties were reported as of Tuesday morning. 

Disruptions to transport in the area is likely in the near term.
