Tonga: 6.7-magnitude earthquake strikes southeast of Vava’u Island October 1

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck 64 km (40 mi) southeast of Neiafu (Vava'u Island) on Thursday, October 1. The quake struck at 14:13 (local time) at a depth of 10 km (6 mi). The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a notice stating that based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake. There have been no immediate reports of damage of casualties.

Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.
