Laos: Compulsory SIM card registration extended through June 30 /update 1

Authorities have extended the compulsory registration of all SIM cards through June 30. Officials attributed the policy to the alleged difficulty for people in remote areas to register. People can register SIM cards either online or manually through telecommunication network employees. Officials have warned that unregistered SIM cards can no longer receive calls or connect to the internet from June 1 and will be disconnected from July 1. Additionally, individuals must ensure that newly acquired cards are registered with the government.
