Mexico: Entertainment establishment workers to rally in Mexico City Jan. 28
Workers in the entertainment sector to rally at Monumento a la Revolucion in Mexico City, Mexico, at 1600 Jan. 28. Disruptions are likely.
Event
Members of the Association of Bars, Discos and Night Centers (AMBADIC) plan to protest at Monumento a la Revolucion in Mexico City from 1600 Jan. 28. The action is to demand the reopening of the sector and that the city progress from the Red to the Orange level of the color-coded system of restrictions implemented at the state level to combat the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Hundreds of entertainment establishment and nightlife sector workers could join the protest.
Police will probably deploy to monitor the protest. Major violence is unlikely; however, heightened security and large crowds are likely to cause localized traffic disruptions in the protest area, including potentially along the nearby Avenida Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Insurgentes. Low-level skirmishes are possible if police attempt to disperse the gathering.
Advice
Avoid the protest as a standard precaution. Heed the directives of the authorities. Plan for localized traffic disruptions in central Mexico City Jan. 28.
