Slovenia: Activist groups to demonstrate in front of Slovenian Parliament in Ljubljana on Jan. 13

Activists to demonstrate in central Ljubljana, Slovenia Jan. 13. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Activists affiliated with several organizations, including the group Maske Dol (Masks Down) - a civic collective opposed to coronavirus disease (COVID 19) restrictions - plan to protest in front of the Slovenian Parliament building in Ljubljana starting at 1400 Jan. 13. The purpose of the demonstration is to demand the resignation of the current government. The event will likely be well attended.

Large crowds and associated security measures will likely prompt public transport disruptions around the protest location. Authorities could divert public transport in affected areas. Current COVID-19 measures in Slovenia severely restrict public gatherings; authorities may attempt to disperse the protest if demonstrators fail to observe COVID-19 restrictions. Isolated clashes between demonstrators and police are possible; clashes were reported at a related demonstration that took place on Nov. 5.

Advice

Avoid the protest due to possible clashes. Heed instructions from authorities and leave the area at the first sign of any confrontation. Check public transport schedules and local traffic conditions for disruptions before travel. Allow extra time to reach destinations in central Ljubljana the afternoon of Jan. 13.
