Slovakia: Authorities tighten COVID-19 related entry restrictions from Feb. 17 /update 25
Slovakia tightens COVID-19 entry restrictions Feb. 17. Significant business and transport disruptions continue.
Event
Authorities in Slovakia have tightened certain COVID-19-related entry restrictions. Effective Feb. 17, all arriving travelers must self-isolate for 14 days upon entry. However, such persons will be able to take a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test no earlier than the eighth day of self-isolation; if the test result is negative, the individual may end his/her quarantine period. The directive does not apply to citizens of neighboring countries commuting for work or study purposes; these individuals will need to present a negative PCR test every seven days. Moreover, exceptions are in place for travelers who have either received the second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine more than 14 days prior to arrival or have recovered from the virus. Upon entry, such individuals must produce the results of an antigen test taken no more than 48 hours or a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival. They must also take an additional test immediately upon entry and self-isolate until the results are known. Aircrews and freight transporters are exempt from all measures. All travelers arriving by air must register in advance using the Electronic Passenger Search Form; they must also fill out the Travel Registration Form immediately upon arrival.
Domestic Restrictions
The nationwide state of emergency is in force until March 19. A daily 20-hour 0500-0100 curfew remains in place until further notice; residents may only leave their homes to perform essential tasks. All persons needing to leave their homes to engage in essential work must have proof of having tested negative for COVID-19 using a PCR or antigen test. Additionally, authorities have extended the mandatory self-isolation period for persons suspected of contracting COVID-19; under the new directive, individuals must self-isolate for at least 10 days, after which they may take a PCR test. Those testing positive are required to self-isolate until they have recovered.
The following domestic measures also remain in effect:
Nonessential businesses and facilities are closed; businesses that are permitted to open must implement strict hygiene and social distancing measures.
Restaurants, cafes, and bars may only offer carryout services.
Facemasks are mandatory in all urban public spaces.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice, depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
