China, Mongolia: Dust storms possible in parts of northern China and western, central, and southern Mongolia through at least March 20 /update 1
Strong winds may produce dust storms across parts of China and Mongolia, leading to reduced visibility through at least March 20.

Additional dust storms are possible in parts of northern China and western, southern, and central Mongolia through March 20. The China Meteorological Administration has issued a blue alert for dust storms in parts of northwest and north-central China, including areas of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, and the provinces of Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong, and Henan. Conditions have generally improved in areas further to the east, with more severe impact possible in parts of western China. Officials could update or extend the coverage of weather alerts over the coming days. In addition to the dust, gusty winds may cause sporadic power outages in the affected area.

In addition to posing a direct health risk to those with pulmonary or respiratory issues, large storms can disrupt air and ground transport operations due to strong winds and low visibility. Dust storms can cause hazardous driving conditions, resulting in traffic congestion and an increased frequency of accidents.

Flights at both Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) and Beijing Nanyan Airport (NAY) have already been impacted in recent days.
