Albania: Air traffic controllers' strike in Tirana causing major flight disruptions

Air traffic controllers launch one-day strike in Tirana, Albania, April 7. Flight disruptions ongoing. Confirm flights.

Warning

Event

Unionized air traffic controllers (ATCs) have launched a one-day strike in Tirana, April 7, in response to pay cuts related to reduced flight activity during the COVID-19 pandemic. All inbound and outbound flights at Tirana International Airport (TIA) have been canceled through at least the end of April 7; preliminary information indicates, however, that the labor action could continue until about 10:00 April 8.

Residual cargo and passenger flight disruptions will likely continue at TIA even after the strike ends.

Advice

Plan accordingly for delays if traveling to, from, or transiting through TIA through at least April 8. Do not check out of accommodations until onward transportation is confirmed.
