Further protests are possible in Anjouan following recent demonstrations April 8-12 in response to the death of a retired military officer, Major Hakim, while in police custody. Demonstrators have accused the security forces of being involved in the killing of the local personality. Major Hakim was reportedly arrested on suspicion of attempting to destabilize the state. Most demonstrations have passed with little impact.

Further protests are possible across Anjouan and in other areas of the country in the coming days. Protests could spread to Grande Comore and Moheli. There is a possibility of violence at any further protests that occur. Localized road travel disruptions are possible near any demonstrations.
