ASEAN leaders will gather at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta April 24 to discuss the Myanmar coup and unrest, among other issues. Officials say the meeting will involve several heads of state or high-level ministers, who will likely arrive and depart via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK). Reports indicate Myanmar's military chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing will attend the event in person. Dozens to hundreds of activists may attempt to demonstrate near the site to protest the Myanmar military and coup.

Authorities will increase security at ASEAN Secretariat and CGK April 24. The police will deploy at least 300 personnel to monitor the event and impose localized road closures to facilitate security measures; transport and business disruptions may also occur on routes to and from CGK. Clashes are possible if authorities forcibly disperse any demonstration or if protesters attempt to breach any security barriers. Mass arrests may occur if the police consider any actions to violate COVID-19 protocols or requirements for public gathering permits.
