Mayotte: Regional health agency threatens indefinite strike from April 8

Agence Regionale de Sante (ARS) threatens indefinite strike across Mayotte from April 8

Informational

Event

Staff at the Agence Regionale de Sante (Regional Health Service, ARS) in Mayotte issued a strike warning April 2. Workers at the agency have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike from April 8 if demands for internal structural improvements are not met. The ARS is currently in charge of Mayotte's COVID-19 vaccination program as well as other aspects of the island's response to the spread of the disease.

It is currently unclear if the strike will affect day-to-day health service provision, if the stoppage goes ahead. Disruptions to routine health services at government hospitals and health facilities may occur during the stoppage due to understaffing. Emergency treatment is likely to remain unaffected. Increased demand for care could also disrupt services at private facilities.

Advice

Monitor for updates on the status of healthcare facilities. If the strike goes ahead, confirm appointments at medical facilities from April 8. Be prepared for some delays.
