South Africa: Several people killed in attacks in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, May 15

Event

Police have deployed additional personnel to Khayelitsha in Cape Town following a spate of killings in the area May 15. At least 11 people were killed and seven others injured in the RR Section, T110, and Y-Block areas. Among the fatalities are four Somali nationals. The motive for the attacks remains under investigation; however, authorities believe the incidents are linked and may have been sparked by the murder of a man earlier in the day. The violence is likely linked to organized crime activity.
