Philippines: LGBTQ activists plan march in Metro Manila June 20
LGBTQ activists to hold demonstration in Quezon City area of Metro Manila, Philippines, from 16:00 June 20. Disruptions possible.
Event
LGBTQ activists plan to hold a march from the Jollibee restaurant to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in the Quezon City area of Metro Manila June 20. Participants will commence the procession from 16:00 and plan to hold a demonstration outside the CHR. Organizers have not announced a march route, though the procession will likely move along either University or Commonwealth avenues. Activists intend to highlight issues affecting the LGBTQ community, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing discrimination against members of the LGBTQ community. Participation will likely involve dozens to a couple hundred people.
Security personnel will likely monitor the procession and may try to break it up if it is especially disruptive. Minor skirmishes cannot entirely be ruled out. Localized transport disruptions are likely along the march route.
Advice
Avoid the march due to possible skirmishes. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time in the area.
